Tivo Now Available in Canada

After many years revolutionizing the way Americans watch tv, Tivo Inc (NASDAQ; TIVO) has finally made the decision to introduce its PVR systems in Canada. Tivo is the market leader in digital video recorders and they have a platform technology with there ground breaking systems. So what is Tivo? And why should Canadians care about Tivo? We’ll Tivo is a system that allows the television viewer to pause, record and replay live TV. However, that is not where the greatest power of Tivo lies. It is in the technology that allows any customer to record all of their favorite programs and watch them whenever they choose. Even more, Tivo allows customers to log on and set their preferences from anywhere including their home or office. This technology is truly ground breaking and has changed the way Americans watch TV, so yes, Canadians should be quite excited.

Due to overwhelming demand from Canadians Tivo has announced that systems will be available for Christmas 2008 in Canada.  The TiVo Series 2 Dual Tuner DVR is now available at Best Buy, Future Shop, London Drugs, The Brick and other selected Canadian retailers. As of December, 2007 Tivo is available in Canada for just $199 CAD plus standard TiVo subscription fees.  TiVo will not be available in Quebec immediately. Customers in Canada can also use other TiVo services such as SeasonPass™ recordings, WishList® searches, Online Scheduling, TiVoToGo™ transfers, Multi-Room viewing, and TrickPlay functionality, which enables users to pause, rewind, instant replay and slow-motion live TV.  The TiVo Series2™ DT DVR, optimized for cable households, holds up to 80 hours of standard-definition content and allows consumers to record two shows at once.

So which services will support Tivo in Canada? Virtually all, including Rogers TiVo, MTS TiVo, Bell TiVo, Shaw TiVo, and other Canadian digital and Cable TiVo providers.
